What You Can Expect At Our Historic Properties

Getting to the Museum
We’ve created a Know Before You Go Guide to help prepare for your arrival, parking and approach at the museum.
Parking
Park in The Broadmoor underground parking garage located adjacent to the Museum entrance, which is at street level across from The Broadmoor hotel and next to the hotel’s Bartolin Hall. Six accessible parking spaces are available in the garage on level P2 and another six are available on level P3. These spaces are located on the wall next to the elevators.
City Bus and Rideshare
A city bus stop is located directly across the street from the Museum entrance. This same area is where museum guests can be dropped off or picked up from ride share options. Ride share drop-off may also occur in front of the Museum, which has smooth access directly from The Broadmoor garage driveway.
Restrooms
Gender-specific restrooms are available on the first floor of the Museum, and an all–gender family restroom is available in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Experience Gallery. All restrooms are ADA accessible.Â
Accomodations
Wheelchairs, Elevator, and RampsÂ
- We have one standard wheelchair on a first-come, first-served basis that can be checked out at the front desk.Â
- There is an elevator to access the Heritage Gallery on the 2nd floor.Â
- There is an ADA-accessible ramp to access the upper level of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Experience. Â

All museum videos have open captions.Â

Each gallery has accessible digital guides that can be accessed on our website and by scanning QR codes in the Museum.Â

Getting to Penrose House
ParkingÂ
In the parking lot immediately adjacent and to the right (west) of the Penrose House entrance, there are two accessible parking spaces. It is a left turn into this lot as you follow the entrance road around to the right upon approach to front of the House. Â
From the parking lot, follow the signs to the accessible entrance with automatic door openers. Once in the House, there are two accessible entrances with automatic door openers and an elevator to the 2nd and 3rd floors.Â
Restrooms
Accessible men’s and women’s restrooms are located on each level. There are no family restrooms, however there is a privacy room for lactation that can be accessed off the foyer and an all-gender restroom on the 2nd floor of the main House and in the Carriage House.Â
Garden Pavilion
There is accessible parking in the upper lot, which services the Pavilion, and an entrance to the Garden Pavilion which is accessible by wheelchair by way of a paved path directly from that upper lot. Â
Garden Pavilion RestroomsÂ
The restrooms for events in the Garden Pavilion are located in the adjacent teahouse and can be accessed via a ramp at the back entrance of the building.Â
Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, the historic burial site of our founders Spencer and Julie Penrose, is uniquely situated on the rugged mountainside of Cheyenne Mountain which in turn presents our most unique circumstances for accessibility.
Getting to Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun
The Shrine is located above Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and accessible by vehicle up a private, paved two-lane road.Â
Parking
Approaching the Shrine
The Shrine tower is approximately 50 yards uphill on an asphalt path. At the top of the path are 10 stone stairs followed by an uneven stone patio that leads to the Shrine. The Shrine’s interior rooms and chapel are only accessible by stairs. The viewing deck is made of uneven stone. The Shrine Education Center is accessible from the parking lot across the smooth asphalt surface with a flat, stairless approach, accessible by wheelchair. Inside of the Education Center there are featured exhibits about the history of the Penroses, Will Rogers, and Will Rogers Shrine.
Restrooms
The restrooms are located adjacent to the parking lot and are only accessible by stairs from outside the building. Inside of the Education Center there are featured exhibits about the history of the Penroses, Will Rogers, and Will Rogers Shrine.Â
