Recreation and tourism are an important part of the region's economy and have historic roots in the activities of Spencer Penrose. Today's El Pomar Foundation owes its creation, financial strength  and regional leadership to the Penrose legacy that includes Pikes Peak attractions linked to the Broadmoor Hotel. The Foundation is exceptionally well positioned to make more visible the recreation-tourism dimensions of the Pikes Peak region. Quality of life resonates with everyone who lives and visits our region and Pikes Peak stands as a world renowned sentinel for what we value and need to nurture and protect. More attention and appreciation are appropriate for this defining dimension to what makes the region unique and enjoyable.
