Peter Wysocki

Director of Planning and Community Development, City of Colorado Springs

Peter was appointed the Director of Planning and Community Development for the City of Colorado Springs in December 2012.  In his role, he oversees development review, long-range planning, neighborhood services and code enforcement functions of the City.  Peter has been a professional city planner for 30 years working for local governments in California, Nevada, Wyoming, and Texas.  He is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners and a member of the American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute, International City/County Management Association, among other professional organizations.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, Peter permanently moved to the United States in 1984 and continues to reflect on the culture shock moving from Poland during the Cold War (that first Big Mac was delicious!).  Peter feels that living and working in various states and cities has given him a wide breadth of experience and an opportunity to learn something unique from each community.  Although initially not intending to study urban planning and public administration in college, after a year in an aeronautical engineering program, Peter realized that his professional passion is in shaping public policy to help cities with challenges of change, evolution, creating vibrant neighborhoods for all residents and conditions for economic resiliency.

He believes that where we live influences how we feel and that great cities create a sense of community pride!
