Position: Assistant Curator at Will Rogers Shrine and On-Call Conference Support at Penrose House

Reports to: Curator/Caretaker, Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun

Job Summary: Perform weekend operational activities at the Will Rogers Shrine and on-call support of other El Pomar legacy properties.

Job Classification: Part-time, non-exempt

Weekends and occasional weekdays or evenings

16-24 hours per week

Wage: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour


  • Perform all daily operational activities including but not limited to; completion of all opening and closing procedures, greet all guests upon their arrival, provide property tours, manage accurate daily guest count, perform light housekeeping, and execute basic maintenance of grounds
  • Regularly check effective function of all operating systems of Shrine; carillon/chimes, water delivery system, Shrine structure, lighting/electrical, and binoculars
  • Respond to occasional inquiries from public about private events at the Shrine, music/chimes from the carillon, and all other matters
  • Ensure all safety, security, and accountability regulations are enforced pertaining to property, buildings, and visitors
  • Manage presentation of accurate and compelling information within the Shrine Education Center
  • Demonstrate strong customer service to Shrine and legacy property visitors
  • Communicate as necessary with supervisor about matters of importance or concern
  • Cooperate and coordinate with key partners to ensure an adequate and safe water supply at Will Rogers Shrine


  • Provide occasional staffing support for Penrose House conference center, specifically with regard to meeting room setup – chairs, tables, linens, notepads, pens, beverages, and audio/visual equipment
  • Supports set-up of audio/visual components of the house to include: flat screens, laptops, projectors, and audio systems in meeting rooms and reception spaces
  • Respond to the conference support needs of Penrose House guests during daily meetings and evening special events
  • Assist with basic maintenance of Penrose House, to include carpet cleaning, marble floor care, and various other maintenance tasks as necessary
  • Must have flexibility and willingness to work weekends and occasionally on short-notice for weekday and evening coverage at Penrose House
  • Provide curator/staff backup and assistance at other El Pomar Historic properties including the Penrose Heritage Museum
  •  Perform other duties as assigned


  • Possess a working knowledge of the Penrose family, El Pomar Foundation, and Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun historical information
  • Be a self-starter and enjoy interacting and providing accurate information to visitors
  • Ability to manage and work cooperatively with others
  • Strong customer service skills and attitude
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve under sometimes short or conflicting deadlines

  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain Colorado State Water License for Small Systems

  • Climbing stairs daily, standing/walking for long periods of time, snow removal of area in front of office and walkway to and around Shrine tower
