This past weekend, scholars from the Student Leadership Experience (SLE) program arrived in Colorado Springs for a two-day leadership development retreat. This year's theme is "Commit to Community: Know more. Do more. Be more."
Throughout the course of the weekend the Scholars were given the chance to participate in the following activities:
- Volunteering at Garden of the Gods with the Rocky Mountain Field Institute
- A downtown scavenger hunt that included visits to local nonprofits, small businesses,
and historical sites
- A panel of local community leaders
- Various curriculum sessions that focused on the nonprofit sector
The SLE program enhances and supplements leadership education at college campuses across Colorado that participate in the Colorado Leadership Alliance. Throughout the year SLE scholars attend a fall, winter, and spring retreat hosted by El Pomar Foundation. Additionally, the scholars are assigned a year-long project that allows them to apply and increase their knowledge of the links between the nonprofit sector and leadership in their local communities.
