Pressure is a Privilege

By Molly Brown

With 22 overall Grand Slam titles and four Olympic gold medals, superstar Venus Williams proved to be an excellent keynote speaker for Peak Vista Community Health Center’s 10th annual Breakfast for Champions fundraiser. While audience members enjoyed a hearty breakfast of steak and eggs, Williams treated them to a lighthearted, yet poignant speech. During her address, Williams captured the attention of the audience with stories about her childhood, career, and her relationship with Serena Williams, her sister and competitor. Williams focused on three themes instrumental in shaping her experience as a professional athlete and her life after tennis:

  • confidence is critical

  • surround yourself with a good team

  • view pressure as a privilege

Williams effortlessly connected the three themes to Peak Vista’s meaningful work in Colorado.

Peak Vista provides premier medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare to people facing barriers to healthcare access. Its vision is to enhance the health of people and the community-at-large through a staff of caring professionals who are motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to the people of Colorado. Peak Vista has proudly served Colorado communities since 1971. Today, the organization’s work reaches more than 80,000 patients in Colorado's Pikes Peak and East Central Plains regions.

Since 1977, El Pomar Foundation has supported Peak Vista’s mission, and its work continues to inspire us today. Congratulations to Venus Williams for her incredible accomplishments and congratulations to Peak Vista Community Health Centers for its service to 80,000 Coloradans each year!
