Morgan Community College (MCC) awarded six completion certificates at a recent ceremony, marking the end of this year's Small Business Partnership Program. Of those recognized, four were selected to receive cash prizes for their business plans.
The awards and prize money went to Kelly Frye to expand her pet grooming business. She received $900 for fourth place. Timothy Brasby received $7,000 for third place for a 3-D printing business. Douglas and Andrea L'Heureux are preparing to open a brewery and received $8,000 for second place. First place went to Roseanne Evans to open and expand a child care center, winning $10,000 for her work on creating and presenting a business plan.
Judges for the contest were comprised of past program participants Kristin Lindsey, Chuck Marting, Nicole Alexander, and Allison Groves. A judge, though not formerly part of the program, was financial advisor Bret Poland.
The event was held at Marlene Funk's new restaurant, Zazzy Café. Funk completed the Small Business Partnership Program in 2014.
The program is about more than just the prize money. "The network that you build in this class is invaluable," shared Adjunct Faculty member Jon Becker.
MCC President Kerry Hart congratulated all the participants and thanked the program's sponsors. Each student was granted a scholarship for tuition and fees for both courses thanks to FMS Bank and the El Pomar Foundation.
The students who successfully completed the program and are eligible to participate in this year's commencement ceremony for certificate completion are: Timothy Brasby (Log Lane Village), Roseanne Evans (Fort Morgan), Kelly Frye (Fort Morgan), Russell Kauk (Brush), Douglas L'Heureux (Fort Morgan), and Debra Schehrer (Brush).
