With a handful of El Pomar Foundation’s nine regions focused on workforce development within their geographic areas, news distributed by Colorado Senator Michael Bennet to his constituents this week is noteworthy. Senator Bennet heralded the fact that public computer centers in 83 communities around the state have recently been placed in local libraries. This effort by the Colorado State Library will allow more people “access to computer training and assistance with education, job searches, health information and other issues.” Because of these centers, libraries are doing more than promoting literacy and learning—they are playing an active role in reducing unemployment and developing a workforce in our communities.
