During its annual statewide conference in Black Hawk, Colorado, El Pomar Foundation awarded $175,000 in grants to five outstanding nonprofits from across the state through the Awards for Excellence program. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the impact these organizations have on the people of Colorado.
Intercambio was honored with the El Pomar Foundation Award for excellence in human services. This award includes a $25,000 grant.
Intercambio opened in Boulder, Colorado in 2001 with a mission to build understanding, respect and community across cultures through educational and intercultural opportunities. Intercambio achieves this mission by providing volunteer-taught English classes to adult immigrants, as well as classes and workshops that cover citizenship and life skills. Intercambio also offers cultural training and events open to all members of the Boulder community. "The Immigrant Guide: What every Immigrant needs to know" is a resource booklet written by the staff and published by the Intercambio. This document has been distributed throughout the country to be used as a resource by other immigrant and community centers.
