Mission: Support Colorado nonprofit organizations that work to prevent cruelty to animals, provide educational programs for the proper care of and attention to animals, and engage in further research and assistance in these areas.

In August, 2010, the assets and grant program of the former Freda Hambrick Foundation were transferred to El Pomar Foundation to act as a separate Fund within El Pomar. The Fund seeks to continue the charitable intent of Ms. Freda Hambrick as evidenced through her life and through the Foundation’s extensive history. Ms. Hambrick worked for Mr. Jasper Ackerman, a business leader in Colorado Springs from the 1940s until his death in 1988. She cared deeply for animals. The Fund, which was originally founded in 1988, makes grants to organizations for the prevention of cruelty to animals, educational programs for the proper care of and attention to animals, and research grants and assistance in these regards. No dollars received from the Fund may be used for euthanasia. Hal Littrell, trustee of the former Hambrick Foundation, will continue to serve as an adviser to the Fund.
Nonprofits with a 501(c)(3) tax status that serve animals in Colorado are eligible to apply for funding.
