Focus On: Military Support

 

With numerous military bases in Colorado Springs and Denver, El Pomar Foundation makes it a priority to find innovative ways to support service members and their families throughout Colorado. In 2007, El Pomar hired recently retired Army veteran Terrance McWilliams as the Foundation's first director of military support. Since 1940, El Pomar has made $5.5 million in grants to support the military. Military-related grant highlights nclude:


Support for military family members

  • Funding to the USO to support dependents of military personnel in the first Persian Gulf War (1990-1991)
  • Military Child Education Coalition
  • Before and after school programs for military families through the Boys & Girls Clubs
  • Entertainment activities for military families to include Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus and Up With People
  • Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, which raises money for programs to support military families
  • Pikes Peak United Way – El Pomar Military Family Assistance Fund

Community Outreach

  • Partnering faith-based community with military faith-based community to better serve military members and families
  • Welcome Home Parades
  • Air Force Academy Visitors Center & Falcon Stadium – capital funding
  • Mountain Post Historical Museum

Support for military members

  • USO Center at Fort Carson
  • Support for the 2010 Wounded Warrior Games at the U.S. Olympic Training Center
  • Operation TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury ) Freedom – community-based program to assist with the treatment of TBI and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Adaptive golf carts for severely disabled soldiers and First Swing Clinic
  • National Organization on Disabilities - Wounded Warriors careers program
