El Pomar and Boettcher Foundations Kick Off Joint 75th Anniversary With Grant

$150K will help expand Colorado Gives Day

ARVADA, Colo. (Nov. 13, 2012) – In honor of their 75th anniversaries, El Pomar Foundation, based in Colorado Springs, and Boettcher Foundation, based in Denver, have joined forces to celebrate giving and encourage others to give through a $150,000 grant to Community First Foundation. The grant’s purpose is to help expand Colorado Gives Day throughout the state and make it easier for nonprofits outside Denver to use to accept donations online.

Colorado Gives Day, an initiative created in 2010 by Community First Foundation, is designed to increase philanthropy in the state through online giving, and takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 4. Through the grant to Community First Foundation, Boettcher and El Pomar want to ensure that more nonprofits outside the Denver Metro area have the knowledge and support to participate in Colorado Gives Day now and in the future.

“We are honored that the Boettcher Foundation and El Pomar Foundation are celebrating their milestone anniversaries with us by promoting charitable giving beyond the Metro Denver area,” said Marla J. Williams, president and CEO of Community First Foundation. “Together, we can work to expand the reach of Colorado Gives Day and help strengthen nonprofits across our state.”

El Pomar Foundation and the Boettcher Foundation share a similar mission—to give within the state of Colorado and to encourage and promote the well-being of Coloradans. Both foundations were established within five days of each other in December 1937.

“The trustees of El Pomar Foundation are excited to mark our 75th anniversary by joining together with the Boettcher Foundation to support Community First Foundation and encourage giving across the state of Colorado,” said William J. Hybl, chairman and CEO of El Pomar Foundation. “Colorado Gives Day has had a huge impact in a very short amount of time. We look forward to being a part of its growth over the next year and encourage all Coloradans to join us by supporting nonprofits across the state on Colorado Gives Day.”

El Pomar and Boettcher are donating $25,000 toward special Colorado Gives Day prizes this year, available exclusively to non-Metro Denver nonprofits participating in Colorado Gives Day. Nonprofits must be registered on, Community First Foundation’s online giving resource, to participate in Colorado Gives Day. The grant also includes funding to support substantial expansion of Colorado Gives Day in communities beyond Denver over the next 13 months.

”We’re excited about Colorado Gives Day 2012 and just as excited about what will happen in different communities across the state in preparation for Colorado Gives Day in 2013,” said Tim Schultz, executive director of the Boettcher Foundation. “Together with El Pomar Foundation, we want to do more than just celebrate 75 years of giving in the state of Colorado. We want to lay a foundation to grow giving that will last another 75 years.”

Similar to last year, third-party processing fees will be covered by Community First Foundation, FirstBank and local foundations and businesses so that 100 percent of Colorado Gives Day donations go directly to nonprofit organizations.

Colorado Gives Day 2011 raised $12.4 million for 928 nonprofits across the state.
